  • Wisconsin Governor’s New Product Award: We Energies was honored for its patented electrically conductive concrete product that can be used in construction and as a means to ground electricity by using conductive flowable backfill.
  • Best Gas-fired Project of the Year Award – Port Washington Generating Station: We Energies received Power Engineering magazine’s award for the first of two 545-megawatt natural gas combined cycle units built at the site of a former coal-fired plant, recognizing its use of the latest and most-efficient technologies available, and being a good neighbor to the nearby community.
  • 2005 U.S. EPA Coal Combustion Products Partnership Award: We Energies was selected by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for commitment over the past 20 years to beneficial use of coal combustion products.
  • Tree Line USA: We Energies received its seventh Tree Line USA utility designation from The National Arbor Day Foundation, recognizing electric utilities that: maintain a quality tree care program; annually train employees in quality tree care practices; and maintain tree planting and public education programs.
  • Electric Power Research Institute Champion Award: A We Energies employee was honored for leadership and commitment to air chemistry measurement and control.
  • Corporate Governance: For the sixth time in a row, WEC received the highest possible score from GovernanceMetrics International (GMI), a corporate governance research and ratings agency. GMI’s rating system incorporates hundreds of data points across six broad categories of analysis: board accountability, financial disclosure and internal controls, executive compensation, shareholder rights, ownership base, takeover provisions, plus corporate behavior and social responsibility. WEC was one of only six companies worldwide to achieve a perfect rating for the sixth consecutive time.
  • Engineering Achievement Award: The American Society of Civil Engineers recognized We Energies for Historic Fox River Canal and Adjacent Property Restoration and Reconstruction work.
  • Award of Excellence: Operation Action UP (OAUP) recognized We Energies for the positive environmental and economic impact of the TOXECON mercury control technology being implemented at its Presque Isle Power Plant in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
  • Sacagawea Award: Professional Dimensions recognized We Energies Vice President Thelma Sias for significant career accomplishments, community commitment and advancement of women.
  • Partner in Art Award: The Milwaukee Art Museum and the Friends of Art recognized We Energies for its long-term support. The award is given to a corporation exemplifying good corporate citizen qualities.
  • Best Workplace for Commuters: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognized We Energies for offering outstanding commuter benefits to employees and for meeting EPA’s National Standard of Excellence. By meeting this higher standard, the company demonstrated its commitment to its employees, the community and a clean environment.
  • Energy for Tomorrow®: For the fourth straight year, We Energies’ renewable energy program was ranked among the nation’s top 10 programs by the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
  • Belize & Beyond: The Belize & Beyond program was taught to more than 600 students in eight Wisconsin high schools. In addition, six students and one educator spent part of their summer studying tropical ecosystems in Belize, Central America. These "Eco Scholars" were part of the nationally recognized Belize & Beyond program, a cooperative program between We Energies and the Zoological Society of Milwaukee. Belize & Beyond was developed by We Energies to support an environmental initiative in Belize to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
