• Neighborhood House — We Energies and the Wisconsin Energy Foundation received the organization's Ray Richardson corporate award for their support in helping the non-profit group serve families and strengthen communities on Milwaukee's west side for the past 50 years.
• Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development — The department's Division of Vocational Rehabilitation recognized We Energies as one of 15 area employers providing outstanding support to help individuals with disabilities succeed in employment.
• J.D. Power — We Energies received first-quartile ranking in the Midwest Region and nationally in the J.D. Power and Associates 2008 Gas Utility Residential Customer Satisfaction Study. We Energies scored 656, which is 25 points higher than the previous year’s ranking of 60 gas utilities, as well as 30 points higher than the Midwest average. In July 2008, We Energies received first-quartile ranking in both the Midwest Region and nationally among large utilities in the study of residential electric customers.
  
• Top 250 Global Energy Company — Platts, a leading provider of energy company information, ranked Wisconsin Energy 21st in the global Diversified Utility classification and 85th overall in the Americas region. The Platts Top 250 recognizes outstanding financial performance using four key metrics: asset worth, revenues, profits and return on invested capital, based on Standard & Poor's Compustat database. All ranked companies have assets greater than $2 billion.
  
• Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) recognized We Energies for its leadership in educating children, adults and the community about solar energy options. SEPA is a non-profit organization formed in 1992 with 400 utility and solar industry members.
  
• Legacy Award — Gale Klappa, chairman, Wisconsin Energy president and chief executive officer, received the Legacy Award from the Legacy Foundation for his civic and business leadership. The Legacy Foundation saluted Klappa for his leadership in launching the Milwaukee 7, the unified regional economic development initiative that was introduced in 2005 to attract business development in Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Walworth, Washington and Waukesha counties. The Legacy Foundation also cited Klappa’s community leadership, demonstrated through his service on several business and civic boards. The Legacy Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization founded by the Legacy Bancorp, Milwaukee.
  
• National Arbor Day Foundation awarded We Energies its Tree Line USA designation for the company’s forestry initiatives as best practices in the industry. We Energies has earned the distinction for the past 10 years. To qualify, utilities must demonstrate a commitment to public education, tree planting and quality tree care. Tree Line USA utilities earn the recognition for their commitment to providing safe, efficient service while helping protect and preserve community trees. We Energies' forestry group also won awards from the Wisconsin Urban Forestry and the Wisconsin Arborist Association (Gold Leaf Award for Outstanding Landscape Beautification Activity) for a company landscaping project at a substation at Julius Road and Highway 96 in Greenville, Wis., west of Appleton.
• Ethisphere Magazine named Wisconsin Energy as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies for 2008. Ninety-three global companies, across 33 business sectors, were selected for inclusion on the 2008 list. The selection was based on corporate citizenship and responsibility; corporate governance; innovation that contributes to public well-being; industry leadership; executive leadership and tone at the top; internal systems and ethics/compliance programs; and legal, regulatory and reputation track record.
• Corporate Responsibility Officer (CRO) Magazine named Wisconsin Energy one of the 100 Best Corporate Citizens in 2008. Wisconsin Energy ranked 15th on the magazine’s ninth annual ranking of the top corporate citizens among U.S.-headquartered companies. CRO evaluated large-cap companies in the Russell 1000 Index in the areas of climate change, employee relations, environment, financial, governance, human rights, lobbying and philanthropy.
  
• Excellence in corporate governance — Wisconsin Energy Corp. received a perfect 10.0 – the highest possible score – from GovernanceMetrics International (GMI), in the agency’s latest evaluation, in September 2008. The rating was the 15th consecutive time – over a period of five years – that Wisconsin Energy has been recognized for outstanding corporate governance. Only four companies worldwide have been consistently rated a 10.0 overall. Wisconsin Energy joins Colgate-Palmolive, PepsiCo and Westpac Bank in this distinction. GMI regularly rates 4,200 companies, including 1,760 in the U.S., incorporating hundreds of data points across six broad categories of analysis: board accountability, financial disclosure and internal controls, shareholder rights, director and executive compensation, takeover provisions and corporate behavior.
• Gold Well Workplace Award — We Energies was named one of America’s healthiest workplaces by the Wellness Councils of America. On Sept. 30, representatives from We Energies accepted the Gold Well Workplace Award in recognition for the programs and services offered by We Energies’ Health Enhancement Initiative. The award recognizes organizations with comprehensive health and wellness programs that yield significant results. Award-winning workplaces such as We Energies make health-related programs a strategic and integral part of their business.
