Awards and Recognition
2011

  • Ethisphere Magazine — For the fourth consecutive year, the magazine named Wisconsin Energy one of the world's most ethical companies. More than 100 global companies, across 38 business sectors, are included in the 2011 list. Ethisphere's evaluation and analysis covers seven categories: corporate citizenship and responsibility, corporate governance, innovation that contributes to public well-being, industry leadership, executive leadership and tone from the top, integrity track record and reputation, and internal systems and ethics or compliance programs.
  • Institutional Investor magazine — The magazine named Gale Klappa, chairman, president and CEO of Wisconsin Energy, and Allen Leverett, president and CEO of We Generation, to its All-America Executive Team for 2011. Each year the magazine conducts a study of analysts and money managers from across the U.S. and abroad to determine the top performing executives in virtually every industry sector. Leverett tied for first among chief financial officers of electric utilities. Klappa ranked second among chief executives in the electric utility industry and first among chief executives of regulated utilities. Leverett served as Wisconsin Energy’s chief financial officer from 2003 to March 2011, when he assumed his current position.
  • Corporate Responsibility magazine — The magazine recognized Wisconsin Energy as one of the 100 best corporate citizens in the United States for the fourth consecutive year. The publication evaluates approximately 1,000 publicly held companies on the basis of environmental performance, employee relations, philanthropy, finance and governance. For the third time, the magazine also placed Wisconsin Energy among the number-one-ranked companies in the category of corporate governance.
  • J.D. Power — We Energies ranked first in the Midwest region for power quality and reliability, as well as billing and payment, in the 2011 J. D. Power Electric Business Customer Satisfaction study. The company also achieved top quartile ranking among large utilities in the Midwest region, moving up from a second quartile ranking in 2010. The study is based on interviews with representatives of more than 17,000 U.S. businesses that spend between $500 and $50,000 monthly on electricity. More than 90 utility brands serving a total of more than 11.7 million business customers are included in the study. Overall customer satisfaction is measured by examining six factors: power quality and reliability, billing and payment, corporate citizenship, price, communications, and customer service.
  • Urban Forestry Council — We Energies and the city of Waukesha received a joint award from the council, recognizing the partnership that was formed to address two blocks of trees in the north central section of the city that had grown too large for the urban environment. We Energies and the city worked together for six months to develop a plan to remove the trees and replace them with utility-friendly alternatives. We Energies handled the initial trimming to remove the branches that were mingling with the power lines. The city completed the task by removing the rest of the trees, trunks and stumps.
