Working together to make your project a success
Make sure your site is ready for service to avoid delays
We are always looking for opportunities to best work with you to ensure a successful outcome with each project.
It’s important for us to meet your timelines and expectations. That’s why, to avoid confusion or frustration, we want to address what makes a site ready for electric and natural gas service.
The following should be completed or taken into account to prevent delays and ensure your site is ready for service:
Installation path
Spray paint, or identify in some manner, the electric and natural gas installation path as illustrated on the job sketch to prevent contractors from laying obstacles in the path. If spray painting, use white spray paint to avoid confusion with other markings.
Obstacles
Ensure all obstacles are removed from the installation path. Our crews are restricted from moving obstacles or waiting onsite for materials to be moved.
Grade (natural gas and electric)
The surface must be within 4 inches of final grade in the meter installation area(s), otherwise we cannot install service. As indicated in the photo below, for gas installation, mark the building area with an upside down “T” to identify final grade and natural gas meter placement.

Vent and window clearances
To adhere to natural gas piping codes, the natural gas pressure regulator (located on the riser pipe coming from the ground) cannot be within 3 feet of an operating window or vent. We prefer a 10- foot clearance. See diagram below.

Meter location
The designated natural gas meter location should never be used for the electric location and vice versa.
Plan changes
If anything changes after the signed sketch is submitted (e.g., window placement, meter location, new deck or structure, etc.), contact your We Energies representative immediately to revise the sketch.
If a site is not ready when we arrive, installation will be delayed by up to three weeks. We also will request a picture of the installation path before rescheduling.
If you have suggestions or feedback about site readiness, please contact us. We look forward to working with you to make your project a success.
