How we are strengthening the grid that serves you

We know how much you rely on us to power your day — from morning routines and family time, to work and everything in between. That’s why we’re investing in a stronger, more resilient energy system. We are doing this by updating our aging electric infrastructure, burying power lines and strengthening our system against severe weather.

Improving reliability

As the energy infrastructure across the country continues to age, we’re actively monitoring and replacing older materials and equipment in the communities we serve.

• We’re rebuilding more than 60 miles of aging overhead lines this year — replacing them with stronger wires, poles and associated support structures.
• We plan to continue burying 80 to 100 miles of overhead conductors per year over the next five to 10 years as part of our work to improve system resiliency.

These efforts are expected to provide improved reliability in areas that have experienced outages caused by equipment, vegetation, wildlife and weather.

Strengthening technology

As technology evolves, so do we. We are also investing in additional remote sensing and circuit protection devices to continue improving safety and reliability.

Some of the new technology we’re employing protects the grid from current and lightning surges, and allows us to restore power faster when severe weather strikes.

Minimizing outages

Most outages are caused by trees falling on power lines. We focus on reducing that risk. In 2025 we took the following steps:

• Trimmed trees along more than 2,600 miles of overhead electric lines.
• Removed more than 7,600 hazardous trees statewide — including those infested with emerald ash borer.

We’re committed to continuing this work throughout our service area to reduce outages and strengthen energy reliability.
